Biztalk 2006
Microsoft BizTalk Server, often referred to as simply "BizTalk", is an Enterprise Service Bus. Through the use of "adapters" which are tailored to communicate with different software systems used in a large enterprise, it enables companies to automate business processes. Offered by Microsoft, it provides the following functions: Enterprise Application Integration, Business Process Automation, Business-to-business Communication and Message broker.

XML Messages
To understand BizTalk, you must get familiar with XML. XML is the language which BizTalk will use to translate between your legacy system technology such as EDI messages.
Orchestrations
Orchestrations are basically the plan of action which these messages will flow through the system. The information is received via a means such as FTP or simply a looping function that continually looks for a new file to appear in a folder.
You will have to parse out the file that you receive, typically a legacy file like EDI file or some sort of text based flat database file. You parse the files using schemas and now you can instruct the data to be inputted into an XML file. Once this legacy file format is translated into the universal XML file format we can now communicate easily and quickly across the web.

Adapters
There are input and output adapters that will allow you to transport the messages between servers.
